Last post of this year

It's been an exciting year, and I've learnt a lot in this subject, IT. Thanks Ana for teaching us so many awesome things and for helping us to improve our English! Enjoy your holidays!

Essay about my iPod

How has my iPod changed my life? My father always complains that I’m all day connected to my iPod and that he thinks that I couldn’t live without it. And it’s true. My iPod has changed my life in a way that I couldn’t go a day without it. From music to videos, I can use it for almost everything. It’s very useful. I can listen to music and at the same time send an email. It’s really easy to use, it’s got a simple template and even if it may seem expensive, I don’t think anyone would regret buying one. There are the smaller ones (Shuffle and Nano), which are supposed to be handy, and others which are bigger (iTouch and Classic). You can do much more things with the first ones. The first iPod I got was a iPod nano. The only thing I used it for was for listening to music and playing games (I was 11 or 12 years old), I didn't even have videos in it. Later, I decided that I wanted something better, an iPod which I could use for almost everything. My parents gave me an iPod Touch. Yes, I could use the Internet on it, but there was something that was the same as my old one: it only had 4 GB. I felt quite disappointed because it would have been perfect if I could have got more music in it... That's why a few months back I bought the newest iPod Touch, with 32 GB. I have loads of space to fill with all the music I want (I've got over a thousand songs). I also use it for taking pictures. Some of them are uploaded to my Instagram (@youngcolossus). I can't complain about its quality, iPod Touch use to take really good photos as long as there is the appropiate light in the place you take it. Instagram plays an important role in all the Apple products which have a camera. It's becoming a really successful plataform (maybe that's why Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of Facebook, decided a few weeks ago to buy it). In conclusion, I can't go anywhere without my iPod Touch because it has become an essential tool in my everyday and if you're wondering what to ask for in your birthday, get one!

Anonymous and WikiLeaks

Andres talked about Anonymous a few days ago: how did it start, what do they do...

Anonymous is an Internet meme that originated in 2003 on the imageboard 4chan, representing the concept of many online and offline community users simultaneously existing as an anarchic, digitized global brain.

Then we also talked about WikiLeaks, an international, online, self-described not-for-profit organisation that publishes submissions of private, secret, and classified media from anonymous news sources.

The Swedish police began an investigation into allegations concerning the Australian Julian Assange's (the founder of WikiLeaks) behaviour in separate sexual encounters involving two different women. I think they did it because of what he had done with all those secrets, not because of that (I don't think that's true).

Twitter

Today Mar has done a presentation about Twitter. She has showed us how to use it, and that there are many celebrities that have an account and write "tweets" (however, most of those celebrities have a person who updates their profiles for them).

Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters(those posts are called "tweets"). It had over 300 million users in 2011, and it has more than 600 employees.

I have a Twitter account and I use it very often, I usually write in English so that people from other countries can understand me. I read what some celebrities tweet, and also what my friends say. I think it's a great social network.

MarvinSketch

We also talked about an useful software called MarvinSketch, presentated by Ana.

MarvinSketch allows users to quickly draw molecules through basic functions on the GUI and advanced functionalities such as sprout drawing, customizable shortcuts, abbreviated groups, default and user defined templates and context sensitive popup menus.

Spotify

Today Peter has done a presentation about Spotify.

Spotify is a Swedish DRM-based music streaming service offering streaming of selected music from a range of major and independent record labels. It was launched in 2008. Spotify had about 10 million users (2.5 million paying members) in 2010. Music can be browsed by artist, album, record label, genre or playlist.

As Peter said, Spotify has a really similar template to iTunes, so it's really easy to use. It's great to listen to the music you want wherever and whenever you want. I have an account, although I don't use it that much. I prefer buying CDs and LP records (the same about "physical" books) as I have always done.

Vector Lines and CAD

Diego has spoken about Vector Lines and CAD.

The term "vector" in graphic design refers to a method of editing and file storage. Vector files store information using paths, trajectories, and nodes.

CAD (Computer-aided design)or CADD (Computer-aided design and drafting) is the use of computer technology for the process of design and design-documentation. CADD software provides the user with input-tools for the purpose of streamlining design processes; drafting, documentation, and manufacturing processes. CAD may be used to design curves and figures in 2D space; or curves, surfaces, and solids in 3D space.

GPS

Today Kike spoke about GPS.

GPS (Global Positioning System) is a space-based satellite navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites.

I think it's a really good invention because it really helps you to find places and guide you.

Then there's something like a game which is planned on the internet. Someone hides a "treasure", that person gives you coordinates and you have to find it. There's also a similar thing but with books.

Soundcloud

Yesterday's speaking class was about SoundCloud. Peter talked about it.

SoundCloud is an online audio distribution platform which allows collaboration, promotion and distribution of audio recordings. It's free, you don't need to pay for uploading, downloding or listening to music. It was founded in Berlin. It was launched in October 2008, there are only 80 employees and it has now about 10 million users.

I already had a SoundCloud account. I mainly use it on my iPod, for listening to music. There's an app (wich is also free) and it's really easy to use. I think it's a really useful website.
